 Spas should not just be about treatments and hot tubs. Those are important, but we feel that a spa should also be about escape. Escaping into another, more peaceful world. With The Shimmer Spa North, we not only put in the requisite private treatment rooms and fun steam room and changing rooms, but we also added a large relaxation area and reading library to assist you in your escape from reality. Unfortunately our camera could not capture the grandiosity of this area. Hanging above these comfy chairs and chaises is our 300lb 6ft x 8ft cobalt blue chandelier. It illuminates the domed interior of the turret ceiling from which it hangs. She also offers refreshments and healthy snackiepoos throughout the day. Yes, there is wireless throughout, but if Gandella catches you working in here she banishes you to the netherworld forever. . There are the requisite artsy fartsy coffee table books but we also have some good trashy magazines in case you need to check up on Brad & Angelina. It is reflected in our choices of calming blue paints, wallpapers, and furnishings. However, we didn’t feel those were enough so we added a projection of constantly moving water in the hallway that leads to the changing room, treatment rooms, and The Green Steam area. . The walls of the bathroom and changing area are covered with a reflecting mylar print of thousands of blue bubbles. Bubbles. Bubbles. Bubbles. Everywhere. All four walls. Close the door and step into a secret world that exists below a natural bubbling spring that flows through the magical kingdom of Roxburywanstein. One equipped for a simultaneous couples massage and another for a single massage. Both rooms are decked out in the most gorgeous aqua flocked wallpaper we have ever seen. Not that we go around seeing lots of acqua flocked wallpaper or anything, but, well, you know what we mean. . We call it The Green Steam because not only are all the mosaic tiles a variety of green colors, they are also made from 100% recycled car windshield glass. So it’s ‘green’ in two different ways. Kind of an obvious play on words, but we thought it was kinda catchy. This steam room is quite large. Actually, it’s so large you could land a plane in it. Nice. .
