"COOL COUNTRY CASUAL" COMES TO THE CATSKILLS
Eleven-Room "Boutique Motel" Combines Finest In Vibrant Retro-Chic Design With Range Of Modern, Luxurious Amenities... All In a Serene And Majestic Mountain Setting
ROXBURY, NY, NOVEMBER 3, 2004—The recent opening of The Roxbury not only delivered a new lodging experience to The Catskills, it delivered a whole new genre.
The 11-room "boutique motel" sets a new standard for Cool Country Casual in what is one of the hottest growing vacation regions in the East.
The Roxbury (www.theroxburymotel.com) offers an entirely refreshing twist on the classic country motel experience. Vibrant color...sleek, classy and thoroughly modern design elements...a full range of luscious amenities that rival any of today’s leading luxury hotels...The Roxbury is The Catskills as you’ve never seen them before.
The Roxbury is located in historic Roxbury, New York, just seconds away from Plattekill Ski Center and Shephard Hills Golf Course and minutes away from Belleyare Ski Center. Just outside the doors, guests can experience the entire range of four-season outdoor activities, from skiing and snowboarding to golfing, fishing, hiking, tubing, antiquing, auctioning, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing and more...not to mention stunning year-round post-card-worthy views.
Such an array of activities provided a challenge to The Roxbury’s owners, Gregory Henderson and Joseph Massa. "We challenged ourselves to create an indoor experience at our property that was every bit as dramatic and exciting as what our guests would experience outdoors."
Lucky for the guests of The Roxbury, the pair had not only a flair for the dramatic, but a professional track record to back it up. Both Henderson and Massa boast theater backgrounds dating back 20 years, including acting, directing and producing plays in Manhattan and across the country. Henderson’s award-winning one-man show, "Whirlwind!" was produced and directed by Massa. The show wowed New York audiences before touring the country for five years. It earned a Backstage Bistro Award and Helen Hayes Award nomination (where it was in a category that included Rent and Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk!). Massa also ran his own theater company for ten years and built sets for some of the world’s most high profile stages, including The Metropolitan Opera and Saturday Night Live.
"We have treated the renovation of The Roxbury like another theatrical production," Henderson said. "We focused on the colors, fabrics, textures and lighting just like we were building a film set or lighting a play.
The keyword we most want to associate ourselves with is fun," Henderson said. "You might not decorate your home this way, but when you walk into a lime green or cobalt blue bathroom shimmering with interspersed glass mosaic tiles or you relax in a bright orange and yellow suite with a plush zebra couch fluffed with furry orange pillows...you can’t really help but smile."
The Roxbury’s state-of-the-art amenities include in-room high speed internet access, personal entertainment centers including televisions, DVD players (and access to a DVD library containing over 150 titles) and MP3 CD playback; Egyptian cotton towels; extra-plush, extra-long pillowtop mattresses; microwaves and refrigerators; curved shower rods (offering an added 12-inches of bathtub/shower space); dual shower heads and more.
The Roxbury is part of Masserson Properties, a corporation founded by Henderson and Massa that is dedicated to the renovation, development and management of top quality lodging facilities for the discerning traveler. The company’s properties also include "Inspiration Peaks," a glorious mountaintop house overlooking the crystal waters of the Pepacton reservoir and featuring some of the region’s most breathtaking mountain views. The luxurious four-bedroom, three-bathroom house sleeps 2-10 people and is perfect for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable escape with your favorite people.
