New York Post August 21, 2007 SLOW DOWN: FROM THE BRONX TO THE CATSKILLS - BY BACKROADS by David Landsel The Roxbury: This re-invented (and recently expanded) motel in a very pleasant town is heaven on a stick, particularly after a long day of sightseeing. I paid $190 (midweek) for a 2 BR apartment on top of the main house. For optimum peace and quiet, definitely book it - it’s called Upstairs/Downstairs, and while they’ve got other suites with much crazier themes, I felt very at home here (that’s the room pictured at left). On premises, there’s now a tiny spa (basically a treatment room, a sauna, shower and hot tub) with a view of the grounds. It’s $20 per stay to use it, which cuts down on crowds. On top of that, they’ve got an almost South Beach-style patio, with a fancy gas jet fire pit, and loungers. Best of all, the owners, Joseph and Greg, couldn’t be nicer. They do a free continental breakfast (with great strong coffee) in the mornings. I’ve been trying to book a weekend here for ages, but to no avail - now I know why. |
